New Chapter. Same Book.

Here I am again! It is resolution season and I’m on the bandwagon! Last year was a hell of a year. I moved in with my serious boyfriend, got a job, lost it, experienced unemployment and perhaps slight depression, moved, started a business and got a cat.

Her name is Ms. Bunny Pinkletin and she’s a doll. But I digress.

I set a goal in February to slim down for my friend’s wedding in October that I was standing in… Didn’t happen. I thought I could do it on my own in my home on the cheap and I couldn’t. I’m pretty sure I’ve gained weight, though I repress the thought of it.

Not reaching this goal is like clock work. I think there’s some self sabotage going on thought I don’t know why. I can meet any goal you give me, any deadline… except weight loss. Something about long term loss of anything kinda freaks me out. Which is strange because I want it. I want to lose weight. I always have. Any psychologists out there?

My sister is getting married (as well as everyone else I know) this year and it’s time, dammit! I’ve spent my entire life being overweight and it only seems to get worse. I’ve joined a gym so hopefully the monthly reminder of how much I’m spending on myself will keep me motivated on top of other motivating factors. I’ve seen some friends’ successes while experiencing pitfalls myself and I’m just SO OVER IT.

So. My new year’s resolutions:
-Work out 3-4 times a week
-Eat healthy
-Be more organized
Simple.. but necessary to say out loud.

When I signed up for my membership I bought 4 personal training appointments and I’ve learned so much. I’ve learned I’m going to look like a fool at the gym and I’m just going to have to accept it and embrace it.

For every work out I do I’m putting a dollar in a jar and when I have enough I’m going to a spa day. When I drop a size I’m buying a new sports bra and jeans! And damn it when It’s time to stand in my sister’s wedding I’m going to be stunning.

Here’s to a new me.. for the last stinkin’ time.

I’ve Been Naughty

Oh so naughty. I feel myself slipping from this health conscience attitude, but when you don’t see results it’s hard to stay focused…

We have recently moved and carrying boxes and furniture up and down stairs for three days straight really wears on a girl. Then there’s the rearranging the house, cleaning up old mess, creating new mess, hosting a house warming party with food and beer and feeling like I gained 10 pounds in one day. Then there was yard work and cleaning out the garage to set up a printmaking studio (yyaaaayy! :D) and the days just keep slipping by!
My new roommate and I went for a run to the organic produce stand probably half a mile away to snatch up some sweet corn, though it was gone, and that half run/half walk killed me! It definitely shouldn’t have.

We were in a bad place in the last house and a lot of emotional eating has occurred and still does a bit (still unemployed), but now I’m ready to get back on the horse. I feel proud to have so much perseverance and to keep going for it, no matter how many times I’ve fallen off this weight loss horse. Ugh.

So there’s 2 weeks before my bridesmaid dress fitting and Thursday I have a doctor’s appt. where I was really hoping when they weighed me that I would be slimmer and would get to hear the praise.. But alas… my world has rocked my boat and I need to steady it so I can row ashore.

^ pretty proud of that metaphor. haha. Maybe I should be a writer…. nah.

I also have a full woman’s exam in December so that will be another goal to get my act together so I can hear the praise of the doctors. 🙂 And don’t forget the wedding in early October where I’ll be sporting a strapless, fuschia dress among other bridesmaids who happen to be size 0-2. Yaaay…. :/

Writing this post has made me hungry… lol. I guess it IS lunch time… Summer = Cause of loss of days.

So here’s my goal (and I’m sure you’re tired of hearing I have new goals and that they don’t get reached):

No beer this week
Only veggies, a bit of fruit and lean meat
Work out EVERY day.

Pretty simple, but it will be a good kick start to getting back into it.

My work out routine as of today will remain the same:

….but I may do some research to find something new to shake it up.

I’ve also purchased protein shake mix. It’s kinda yummy and I think it’s the reason I haven’t lost muscle since not working out these last two weeks.

I’m also going to FREAKING RUN MORE! This is getting quite ridiculous. I put off running like it’s the plague… It’s like 70 degrees and overcast out right now, why am I not running?! I am. 🙂 Well, I will once I spell check and publish this anyway… I added another run to my account on and will be bringing my stop watch to time myself accordingly.

So there you have it! I’ve resurfaced with a stronger game face and some serious distaste for how I’ve let myself slip. So here’s to me! Here’s to us! Let’s freakin do this!

I can’t vs. I don’t

If you’re anything like me, whenever I hear the words “I Can’t” as in “I can’t touch that, eat that, do that…” All I want to do is that. I’m stubborn. I’m German. ha ha. I love this attitude when I want to push myself to new heights but when it comes to food… it’s the worst. So I’ve started saying “I don’t.” “I don’t want those chips because they will set me back.” “I don’t want food right now, at 10 o’clock at night, because it will just sit like a lump on a log in my stomach.”

You see the difference?  It’s not that I can’t eat that, it’s that I don’t want to. This has changed me SO much. I suggest you try it.

It came to me when I started counting calories to see where I was at. If I reached 1,000 before dinner (out of a 1,500 diet) then I knew I was in trouble. So when it was 9/10 o’clock at night and I had used up all my calories it was getting dangerous. So I would say, “Notta! You don’t want that.” and most times that worked and other times… that stubbornness came back. So.. it’s a work in progress, but it’s helping greatly!

Counting calories is such a funny thing. I pretend it’s like a game. Although there’s math involved, I still enjoy it. It makes me find recipes that have the lowest calories while still being filling. This week I’ll work on finding some and share them with you!

I guess I should update a little, since I’m here. Still jobless. Still overweight. Nowhere near my 1 mile by July 1st goal (curse this heat and my unmotivated legs..) Also, my friend’s wedding is closing in. :/ I need to tone these arms and slim this waist if I want any chance of fitting in with the other bridesmaids. We all ordered shirts for the bachlorette party and everyone ordered a small… junior fit… FML. I’m trying not to let that get me down, but I really don’t want to be the fat girl in the pictures. There’s always one and It will be me. Boo. Enough of this pity party. I love me. I think I’m beautiful and fun and I don’t need to be a small to love myself. And that is that! hmmph!

So this week I’m making it about me. I’m going to really focus on what I’m eating, work out like a champ everyday and do some free outdoor activities to get me away from our fridge. And maybe have a mini spa day with a bucket of warm water and my pedicure kit. 😉

So that’s that. I need to pump myself back up because this slump I’m in is fierce and awful. Before I go, don’t forget to add Notta on facebook I’d love to get more people on there so we can start a convorsation about the journeys we’re on. Not to mention I post recipes, inspirational pictures and fun facts! What’s not to love?

Sunday Saddlebag Shaver Day

saddlebag=outer thigh. Had to look that up 😉

Sunday Funday!

Sunday cardio day!

Update June 9

Alrighty! Here we are. Doin some updating. I’ve posted videos of the new workout routines I’m trying and they’re kickin my butt and I love it! My runs are getting better. I have 21 days to solidify my 1 mile goal! I’m feeling pretty good about it. The distance between running and walking is getting shorter and shorter and my runners high when I get home is incredible! Well, until I do the video workouts, then I want to die…but still! 😉

I received my bridesmaid dress in the mail! SOOOOO excited! I had to order two sizes bigger because they run small so I was very distraught with the number I had to order. But I got it and it needs to be taken in a bit (mostly in the boobs 😦 but also in the waist :D) So I’m going to look into how long I can wait before I need to get it altered and hopefully drop these pounds to make myself feel really amazing in this dress. Its hot pink and is draped very flatteringly. I have until October! I’ve hung this dress on the door in our workout/office/storage room so I can visualize myself looking smokin hot in it while working out!

Once I tried on the dress I instantly felt like eating healthier, so I have been! I had about a two feeding frenzy on food that made me feel guilty and made my insides feel like… well, crap. So I’ve been getting up early to run and work out and afterwards I feel so ambitious to make food! So, here’s what I’ve made this week:

Chicken, avocado, pine nut (those I cheaped out and got sliced almonds), feta, tomato and spinach salad!

I also made:
Cucumber and avocado salad

And tonight we splurged a little and ate Portobello “Philly Cheese Steak” (sooo good!)

They were all so yummy! I wish I could share my Pinterest boards with you but to keep my anonymity I think I’ll start a Facebook (even though the poll was… tied. Thanks to all 5 who voted… :/ ) but I think I’ll start one to start sharing more things and leave the blog for more stories than videos.

Oh! Lastly, I have some pre-interview screenings for jobs this week so my confidence is high and is making me want to work out that much more! This blog is mostly about eating well and work out routines, but it’s also about being the best me I can and I think that deserves some attention!

So! I will post about the Facebook situation and keep you all updated on my 1 mile goal and bridesmaid dress fittings!
